Pricing

All of the work we do is 100% custom, and each project is very unique. This means that we must provide a custom quote for each project, based on the specifics. We can give you a “quick quote” to give you an idea of what pricing will be, but before any project goes into production, we will provide you a “comprehensive quote” so that all the details are covered upfront. We will provide an estimate of your project upon request, which will show the exact itemized and total cost for your potential project. Nobody ever liked a “surprise” on their invoice!

Each type of decoration is priced differently. For example a 4-color left chest print on the same 12 polo shirts would have very different costs if screen printed instead of embroidered. Here are the basic costs to be considered for each type of application:

Embroidery:

Digitizing– this is the initial setup cost to convert a design or logo into a format which can be embroidered. We can work from just about any image format to digitize, but we prefer vector art (AI, PDF, EPS or CDR are all ideal.) A left chest / hat front sized design is generally priced at $45 – $75 and that’s a one time cost. Once we have your design set up and show you an embroidered sew-out for approval, we’ll keep it on file for future use and we’ll be able to put it on just about anything. We will need to redigitize a design (at additional cost) if we need to resize it by +/- 10% of original size. Large, full back embroidered designs can cost upwards of $100-$200 to digitize.

Per garment cost:
• Higher per unit cost for decoration than screen print, but less costly for short runs due to less setup required.
• Larger designs = higher stitch count = longer time to produce = higher cost, the larger you go.
• Quantity breaks apply at the following marks: 12, 24, 36, 48, 72, 144, 288, 576 and 1,000.
• The most significant price breaks begin at 36 pieces for embroidery. The next significant break is at 72 pieces.
• Different styles, colors & sizes may be combined to count toward total quantity.
• Hats and “flat” items are counted separately, due to different machine setup required.

Screen Printing:

Artwork / vectorizing– If you do not have your logo in a vector format (AI, PDF, EPS or CDR files), we will likely need to vectorize your logo in order to get it ready to print. This usually costs between $25 and $50 depending on the design, and we will e-mail you proofs for approval before we begin production. We keep all designs on file for future use and we’ll give you a copy of the vector art for other use upon request. (Vector art is ideal for many other applications too– signage, vehicle graphics, business cards, print projects, web and much more! Everyone should keep a vector copy of their logo on file!)

Screen setup–
Setup costs are easily the most misunderstood aspect of the work we do. Here’s what setup fees are all about. When we go to set up a job to print, we must do many things to get your design from the computer to press:
• Art adjustments– typesetting, trapping, underlays, color correction, color matching, registration marks, etc.
• Then printing film positives for each color, because we must print each color (and each print location) with a separate screen.
• Expose and process each screen, one at a time.
• Dry and complete processing, and QC each screen to ensure quality
• Set up each individual screen on press and achieve registration between colors (AKA make sure everything is lined up perfectly. This is the most difficult part of the screen print production process.)
• Test print until QC and QA are achieved.

Now, with that all in mind, consider this– A single location, 4 color print can easily take upwards of 45 minutes to an hour to complete all these steps, plus the costs of materials. Now consider this– If someone wanted “just one shirt” printed, we obviously would need to charge for the time and materials which go into creating that one shirt. That said, we discount setup costs at every dozen total pieces ordered with the same decoration.

Let’s use the example of the 4 color, 1 location print. Okay, setup cost for one screen is $15. Here’s a breakdown of what setup costs would be for various quantity ranges:

Screen Setup: 1-11: $60   12-23: $45   24-35: $30   36-47: $15   48+: N/C

Per garment cost:
• Lower per unit cost for decoration than embroidery especially at higher quantities, but more costly for short runs due to involved setup required.
• Quantity breaks apply at the following marks: 12, 24, 36, 48, 72, 144, 288, 576 and 1,000.
• The most significant price breaks begin at 24 pieces for screen print.
• Different styles, colors & sizes may be combined to count toward total quantity.

Thermal Transfers:

• Artwork / vectorizing: Same requirements as art for screen printing; see above.
• Freight cost: We use the best supplier available for printed transfers and for plotter cut material, but all items must be shipped from their location to us. Shipping costs will depend on freight method, but UPS Ground freight averages $12.50 for most orders.

• Per garment cost:
• Lower per unit cost for decoration than embroidery and screen print especially at lower quantities, but more costly for larger runs.
• Cost is affected significantly by size of the design, where it is not so much in screen printing.
• Detail of the design may affect cost and may be a limiting factor. We can only cut vinyl so thin and have the remaining pieces hold up well.
• Quantity breaks apply at the following marks: 12, 24, 36, 48, 72, 144, 288, 576 and 1,000.
• The most significant price breaks begin at 24 pieces  for thermal transfers. Another significant break is at 72 pieces.
• Different styles, colors & sizes may be combined to count toward total quantity.

General info about pricing & consulting for custom print projects:

To maintain competitiveness in our field, we generate customized pricing for each project we work on. We enjoy the custom nature of our work, as it gives us the chance to design and execute (sometimes very complex) streamlined plans & engineer logical and simple pricing and sourcing solutions to help meet clients needs, with an eye toward making reorders super simple.

For most custom projects, one quick initial consultation and possibly a fast follow up e-mail or phone call is usually all we need to get a job from idea stage into production.

Net terms are available for accounts upon credit approval. For most cash sales and non-account orders, we appreciate payment upon receipt of goods.

    “We heard you’re expensive”

Well, that may be true in specific instances. Other times, you might have heard

“Those AT guys gave us the lowest bid of all!!”

It just depends on what your expectations are. Expect this: Whatever the costs involved, your project will receive the special attention required to meet our exceptionally high standards for quality.

We will absolutely meet your deadline requirements. We understand that “if there’s no shirts, it’s no good”. We WILL come through for you– No matter what. As many of our customers and friends know, Atomic Threads has been built on a rock-solid foundation of quality and service.
